Phil(Or whatever you really are),
The thing is that in the music profession there is no room for big fat egos. Those get weeded out. There are plenty of good clarinet players who can play eighth notes, 16th notes and even (I Shudder) 32nd notes. The other thing is, do you really think that bragging about your prowess with the ladies is going to get you to be popular with them. You can see that neither your musical bragging or your date bragging didn't happen for you here and it didn't happen real quick. Esp with a name that some of us suspect could very well be a chosen as some sort of a joke. If it's not a joke and it's your real name, may I suggest going by a pseudonym on the internet. I do bnecause my real name is so hideous, I dare not offend. So, if it is real maybe have this "Phil MaWazzevah" name changed at a point about ten years down the road when you do graduate from your Sunbeam school.

And yes, Marcellus was a great and outstanding clarinet player.

I didn't come here to seduce women. I came here to share my immense knowledge of the clarinet and music in general.

My name may be hideous to you but to me it is just my name. Thanks for being a jerk to me too. After a lifetime of verbal abuse from people concerning my name the last thing I need is yet one more person telling me to change it and that it is so horrible that I should hide it.

You sound kind of egotistical and superior yourself. A sort-of clarinet neo-nazi. I don't have to change my name because you don't like it and I don't have to be the way you want me to be.

If you honestly believe that there are no big egos in the world, which I inhabit, of big name musicians you are painfully mistaken. When you get really good at something everyone around you looks incompetent nd it is dificult to continue seeing them as human beings. I see most clarinet players as little ants scurrying around stacking up their little pieces of straw while I stomp around in my big boy shoes(sometimes I roll around in them).

Don't get me wrong, I like the little ants but they will once in a while crawl up your pants leg and bite the crap out of your knees. I myself have sensitive knees.

Very interesting analogy, Phil. It seems as if people don't like you around here.......

well "Phil" obviously doesn't understand the NYC free-lance scene, unfriendly musicians with huge egos go nowhere...

That is a most interesting idea...Phil, why don't you tell us where you've performed, other than in the "best community band on the east side of Boisie, Idaho".

I stand down in awe. Philup.

But as Micron said, How about a solo?
Mozart Conc. in C Kv. 621? Should be easy for you. "The Machine"
Not that I like machine-like playing mind you.

Maybe a bit about your experiences at Juilliard or New England, or even Chicago Northwestern.

Anything for us to warm up to you besides your impressive ego. Then maybe we can further comprehend how great thou are.

Hahaha! I have to say this thread has been most amusing to read but why are we even bothering with this guy? It is obvious that he is just doing this as a joke and for attention and feeding into it is just what he wants. Thanks for the good laugh though Phil. I like a little sense of humor but without the insults to others it would be more funny. No one likes to be put down..

now i have to jump on the bitching bandwagon. thank god for pms!

excuse me phil, but when did you assume the right to harass my friends? your constitutional rights to be a dick end when someone elses rights to be a human begin. and when you started making fun of kara and micron and other fellow boarders here, i believe your rights ended. this forum here is like a family and no one messes with my family, especially when they do it on purpose. these people are here to spread the wealth of knowledge they hold to others who dont know the power of what they hold. and even if they werent here to inform, they are here to ask so they can help others become more knowledgable than they were before. no one here is more elite than anyone else because we all give and take freely. and even if someone thought they were deserving of a higher "status" over someone else, NEVER would they say it a rude manner. you have been out of line and that is unacceptable. if your mother or father or whoever raised you and taught you morals and values EVER saw what you had written, they would be ashamed of you, just like i am right now. i am ashamed to say that i belong to an educational forum with such helpful and caring people when there is a doltish person posting mean comments right and left! and you, sir, are a cyber bully to the fullest extent.

oh, and for the true topic... as for the section leader thingy, i wouldnt worry about it. i was probably the best flutist in the state (or at least one of the best. i was ranked up there) in a high school of average to semi-average musicians. i was denied the position of section leader for 2 years. when i was a senior, i didnt even want the position anymore. so, in short, if you know what youre doing and crack a few jokes, no one will care if youre older than them or younger than them.

Beautiful!

You harague me for being egotistical and then immediately start talking about how you were the best flutist in the state? Of course this must be true even though you weren't noticed. So, you are saying that your band director and other adjudicators were less than intelligent for not noticing, right? I have been the best clarinetist on this side of the country for about 20 years and no one has noticed. I learned to deal with it without throwing it in everyone's face.

I have been extremely clear in my postings that I disagree heartily with the advice given in this thread and I believe the advice to be so bad as to be damaging.

So if we are your family and you feel so strongly about protecting your family try starting with the destructive advice being given to "your family". I didn't make fun of Kara or Micron. I pointed out that their advice was terrible and that they should think twice before typing that nonsense. At what point did I remove from someone their "right to be a human"? (Is there a right to be a human? I thought we had no choice in that...) Also, am I not allowed to voice my own opinion.

As long as we are being ashamed of each other I am TERRIBLY ASHAMED that you guys not only give terrible advice to one another but even more ashamed that you defend the advice-giver to the end.

Just because I'm really good people have always disliked me. Jealousy is a woman scorned.
