Suggest you see a flute teacher, so you can show it in person.
It's very difficult to point a problem without acctually seeing.

cheers,

I agree with Zevang, Micron, while your suggestions technically make sense, it is hard for a beginner to play with a ruler in their mouth...

I passed a few cowmoomoos today as a matter of fact and asked them outright. They said none of your tips helped them. lol!!!

Okay, in all seriousness, I do think it is much better for a student to have a real live teacher, but of course we can't all have that.

Patrick, you ought to go on expert village.com. You would do great on there and then also put Joe on there to speak about repairs and such. That would be very interesting. Of coures there is always youtube too.

Can anyone explain with history and grammar, why people still think calling a flutist a flautist (from the italian word flautista) is correct. I mean technically, based on the Italian history of the word dating back to 1860 or so, this is the term still used in some formal situations.

My teacher said this to me when I posed the question of which is more correct or proper. She said I play a flute not a flaute. So it seems to me that in America, that flutist is more correct. Has this already been discussed in detail and I missed it somewhere, if that is the case I am so sorry for bringing it up here. I believe the word flutist can find it's history to as early as the 1600's making it much older and in my VERY humble opinion more correct.

I think people want to "sound" like they are in the "know" when they use that term, and in truth they may be doing the opposite. Not that saying flautist or flautista is wrong, it's just that is italian, not english.

Ok, that's my 2 cents on the topic.
