You have to think about line, rather than each note individually. Dont think about each of them but blow through until the end and try as an exercise doin all of the notes legato!!! Start on one single note and try and get the focused sound you so desire , then (but it will take time) do scales thinking like this. Its all a mental thing. Just blow through a long line!! You have to come up with your own image but when you do... it will work!!

As usual, nothing but crappy advice here.

What is "skeaky"?

It's a good thing we have the advice we need from the beginners section. Where would we be without it?

Try making a smaller aperture and experimenting with airspeeds. Take a hammer and make a little dent in the head joint. Just keep making it bigger and bigger until the tone focuses.

I haven't done it myself but all of the pros I know seem to have done that. You could also try removing the head joint and blow across the open hole of the body of the flute. When you go back to playing with the head joint, your sound will appear much more "in focus".

Just my $.02 friends.

Unfortunately, Phil's two cents are in a different currency, and are no good here. In case anyone didn't pick up on it, he's being sarcastic. Please do not put a dent in your headjoint, and blowing across the body won't help your tone either.
