You are going to have to TRY the Pearl to see which you like better.

In fact, to find an appropriate flute for YOU, you will want to try several models in your price range.

Having the assistance of your flute teacher can be a HUGE help. Taking the flutes (even if they are brand new) into your independent flute tech's shop, to check things out, can help. too. But definitely involve your flute teacher. If you don't have one, GET one.

I personally prefer the sound of a Pearl but it depends on the way you play and personal preference.

If you get a Pearl I would personally go for the more upper handmade models. I am not a fan of the lower models. The headjoints on them are not the greatest. But like others have said, try both of them and see for yourself. That is your best bet. Good luck!

Hello! Just the other month I "stepped-up" from a Gemmie 3sb Please listen to the above, it might take a while, but if you take the time to try flutes, go to flute stores or get flutes sent, you'll be better in the long run. Also, I have not tried either of those flutes, but I have heard better things about the Pearl.

Honey!

Gold lip plate is nothing. It wont affect ur sound. Unless u're allergic to silver... rollers are so unneccessarry... it's just a feature for richer people... C#-trill key... can u trill B to C# on a flute wich has no C# trill key? Well not a bad feature but u still can exist without it. But if u really want it so badly then go for it. What etudes can you play and what grade are u in right now?

"Gold lip plate is nothing. It wont affect ur sound. Unless u're allergic to silver..."

For gold PLATING, that is true, but 14K plate, riser, tube DO affect the sound and response.

"rollers are so unneccessarry... it's just a feature for richer people..."
Not necessary, but they definitely make things easier. It's not just for "rich people". Cost is minimal for the benefit. Adolph Sax included rollers on the sax, but unfortunately, Boehm did not include them on his flute. Would you want to drive or ride in a car with no heater, no A/C, and no sound system? They're not necessary either and are just for rich people... :-)

"C#-trill key... can u trill B to C# on a flute wich has no C# trill key? Well not a bad feature but u still can exist without it."
Yes, but again it's a great convenience and technique facilitator...

Concerning rollers...

I had a teacher once who had rollers on her flute and didn't like them. They are very much a matter of preference. Another teacher taught me the "nose grease" trick, which is where you rub your little finger on the side of your nose. It sounds disgusting, but it's very effective and more common than you'd think.

Yeah.. I don't prefer the rollers either. They just get in the way and are an annoyance to me. I do however LOVE the C# trill key. I am still debating on rather getting one on my new flute or not. I am trying to keep the weight down.

I know.. I loved using it on my Powell too, but I have to keep the weight down if I want to continue playing.

well C# trill key is very useful makes things easier of course. If you have E-mechanism on ur flute C# trill key is a must then. Because it helps the third octave G-A trill to sound it clearly than the standard fingering with E-mechanism.

<Added>

oh and one more thing. Pearl flutes must be nice etc bla bla bla... but the mechanism is crap.. So I'd describe Pearl flutes as crappy flutes

Musicman944...
"Unfortunatelly" I am not interested in saxophones and I don't think we should compare an instrument to another kind of instrument they're not the same. I don't know anything about saxophones so I don't know what you were going to say about it. Well you're right about the features, but rollers (D#) is so unneccessarry and Kara is totally right: try to avoid the unnessessary excess weight on your flute... well D# roller might be like a gramm but mechanisms are not.

you definitely have to try both. I personally do not sound all that great on Pearl head joints (I have tried both the 765 hj and the Forza) but have known several people who sound great with them.

I don't know your exact budge, but also try looking at the Pearl Dolce (695 the CODA model is around $2350 USD) that comes with the Forza headjoint. That is the flute I have and I use a Yamaha EC hj which works very well for me.

I would recommended the Dolce/Elegant over the Quantz models they would be worth a little extra money. My friend has the Quantz 665 CODA model and has several problems with it especially at the beginning. I have had zero problems with mine. Its definitely better to get the Dolce that has a silver head with a plated body, rather than the 765 that is all silver because the Dolce is partially handmade. Craftsmanship is more important than material.

I also personally do not like the placement of the roller on the Pearl, just kind of find it useless, but I definitely find the C# trill key worth it!

I'd also look into the Yamaha 500 series. The only reason I did not get one is because they didn't have the C# trill but they now are standard I would have bought the 574 hands down if they had the C# trill key. They added that to models other than custom ones just a few months after I bought my flute a few years ago.

I have not tried the Amadeus so I can't really say anything about that one.

If you are in the US, I highly recommend FluteWorld. I trialed, and bought my flute from them and had no problems at all
