Yes, I never was trying to imply that copying music is ok, but if someone sent her the original book, then that would be ok. She just asked for the book, that's why I said "not actually asking someone to break the law.'' If someone sent the original copy it would be perfectly fine. Copying music is very wrong and anyone who does it is certainly breaking the law, no question about it.

binx-
that is a very strong accusation...
do not jump to conclusions to fast. It may very well be true, but it would be best to be completely sure before placing an accusation on somebody. It seems like our flute section here has driven many new members away the past few weeks, and if flutebabe turns out NOT to be Chermo, then we may very well lose her too. Besides, why would somebody argue with themselves? ?If you look in the previous posts, you can see that Chermo and Flutebabe's posts contradict each other slightly.

binx, I am not chermo, just so you know. I am looking for flute keys and maybe chermo read that thread and decided that it was a good idea to make jewelry out of flute keys too and went there to see if anyone had any. I can't believe you would think anyone would do that. So what if I registered after chermo why would chermo do that? Just so you know if google search chermo there is a lot of people that have the name chermo. I have not yet posted that I want flute keys anywhere so I can assure you that chermo is not me flutebabe.

I know I said I was no longer posting but I have been reading all day the replys I have gotten and just had to tell you all....
I would like you to all know that I read the copywrited laws and I now know them and how they work. I am sorry that I was asking people to do things that were illegal. I did get upset because you were all bashing me for something I thought was ok. I did go out and buy the book I wanted and you can all be assured that no one will find a copy of the book anywhere in my house except the original book I purchased today. I had a different impression on the copywrite laws but now that I read them I know and will never ask for copied music again. I will stick to the free stuff online and buy the stuff that is not free that my daughter wants. I no longer need a copy of it as I bought it today. Sorry again for this whole thing as I really didn't know it was illegal since I was truly unaware of the true copywrite laws until today. I really didn't think this would be so out of control when I asked for it. Again I am sorry and my daughter is happy to have gotten this book. She already started to try to play a song but needs to learn more notes first. I am teaching them to her and hopefully she will be able to play the songs very soon.
I again applogize that I asked for something illegal and I know that now it was illegal so I know to not ask for copywrited music ever again. I may not be perfect but I do try.
I really did see that someone including flutebabe wanted flute keys to make jewelry and I thought it was a great idea so I hopped over to usedflutes.com as mentioned in the thread and asked if anyone had any, I love the idea to have a flute key turned into a necklace. I will either get some and sell them if I can or I will hope to get 1 so I can make it for my daughter. My daughter deserves the best and I only want the best for her.

I am glad to see that this small drama has a happy end.

I am sure your daughter will enjoy the music you could get her.

travel i like your way of thinking, lol, i personally stick to free music, although i admittedly have copied the occasional peice of music- (like a junior orchestra sheet and a study from my flute teacher) but that is only so that the original stays with its rightful owner and i do return the copy to the owner of the book or orchestral set or what ever it is but to be honest is it that bad asking if any one had it and where she can find it and is it that bad to help a learning flute player out if it helps her daughter develop her flute skills.

chemo(sp?) i am glad your daughter is happy and i wish her the best of luck, and i recommend if she likes the song to learn aladins a whole new world, it is hard at first but once you get it, it sounds amazing and is very rewarding. pink panther theme is also a fun one and so is memory from cats but the copy on the site i posted earlier is killer i think. and i would get her to find a pretty hard song she likes (that she had the music for) and get her to work towards being able to play it by building up the skills required (like the finger speed, fingerings, articulation and being able to play the key) my one was a whole new world when i got the music and having a goal helped loads, my new one is flight of the bumble bee but i have alot to learn to play that yet.

She has started to play the Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds and almost has it already very slowly but she is doing great, she still has more of a problem with keeping her blowing steady. The notes she has perfect but like I said very slowly which is great. She wants to be able to play the songs from the Hannah Montana book before she starts summer band camp which is a great goal for her. I need her to work on holding the flute more and blowing so she can always make a sound. She has been practicing for a whole 3 days for 30 minutes each day and already knows the notes to Best of Both Worlds so I feel she is doing great and she will be well rehearsed for her first day of band. She also knows Mary Had a Little Lamb, Happy Birthday & Twinkle Twinkle Little Star which is also great for only playing for 3 days. But like I said she needs practice blowing and holding it right so she gets the correct tones she wants/needs to play all the notes where they sound right. All in time I am sure, all in time.

Leigh, in short, yes, it is wrong/illegal to photocopy anything, including music, that has a current copyright.

It doesn't matter who you are helping to teach the flute, or whatever- there ARE flute method books and sheet music that are past copyright. So there is NOT an issue of, hey, that poor person, they can't buy music so they can't learn to play the flute. IF they want something more modern and/or popular, they can save up or buy the newer music or method book.

Let's say YOU wrote a book.
People found it to be a good book, and they wanted to read it.
If they photocopy the book themselves, they are stealing from you the right to copy the book that YOU wrote yourself and sold to someone.

For those of limited resources, books, sheet music, CDs, etc CAN be borrowed, read/played/enjoyed, learned from, and returned to the LIBRARY for someone else to read.

If someone no longer wants a book, they can give it to anyone they would like to.

But if you copyright something, that gives you the only right to legally copy.

Chermo, glad to hear that your daughter is enjoying the flute playing.

Wow Chermo, that is a lot of songs for just 3 days of practicing. I can't believe that she can already play all of those songs. I am also glad you got the music you wanted for her. I am sure she will be great at the flute before summer band starts. Congratulations
