Hi everyone!
I've opened a new website and I'd like to hear from you what you think about it.

http://www.flutetunes.com

The free services we are providing introduce what I think is a totally new concept in the domain of music publishing, because our music is:
- first of all, free;
- daily updated, allowing use as daily sight-reading exercises;
- provided with MP3 and MIDI play-along tracks;
- printable in high quality;
- spanning across all levels of difficulty.

We are already listing more than 100 scores, and at the rate of one new score per day we are growing very quickly. We are also taking requests from our visitors.

Please let me know your opinions and suggestions! Thanks!

The Star-Spangled Banner is already there.
In a week or so I'll add the others you've suggested.
Which funeral march do you mean, Chopin's?
Thank you for your suggestions!

Your idea and efforts are useful for students. I hope you have studied all copyright issues and do not have problems in the future. Scanning of scores commercial editions should be avoided because it is infringement of intellectual property, even if the work is older than 1923.

I would like to suggest you put some more basic information on the score list, at least for those popular and prolific composers as JS Bach or W.A Mozart. You have only 8 Bach works by now, but sure you will soon reach tens of them and more.

i.e the BWV number in the case of Bach or K. number for Mozart would be much useful, as names such as "siciliana" or "Minuet" are too poor descriptions and are repeated several times in the collection of works of these composers.

I know the information is there after clicking on a name, but it might become a problem when the lists becomes longer.

I may collaborate in the near future, if you accept, with some pdf/midi/mp3 I have prepared for my own study, based on my own edition of the score and in a few cases, with different arrangements. Some of them were uploaded at this site.

jose_luis, thanks for the great feedback!

Helping students is exactly the point. My initial objective was creating a rich source of material for daily sight-reading exercises. While this goal remains, I've also started working on more complex pieces, such as the Dance of the Blessed Spirits. As regards copyright issues, one of the main features of the website is that every piece is reworked into a new, high-quality edition, that I personally typeset. You won't find any scanned commercial score on the site.

You are right, the score list is not very clear at the moment. I have to figure out a better layout that still fits the global design of the website. Please try visiting the page again in a day or two and let me know if it has got any better.

A collaboration would be a great help, let me know what you have to offer!

Thanks again!

leighthesim, I've added the three pieces you suggested: Flight of the Bumblebee, Wedding March and Funeral March. Right now you can find them all on the homepage.
I think the Funearal March is very nice, especially the interlude in major.
For the Wedding March I've even provided the score for a duet, but it's also playable as a solo.

jose_luis, I've enhanced the listings following your suggestions. I think now they are nicer, but if you have any objection please let me know.

Hi!
I checked you WEB again and it looks great! I would say it is becoming one of the most interesting sites to visit, in search of free music and also (and very important) because of the comments and background information you are including with each piece.

I find this information very useful. I hope you can keep up with the undoubtedly high workload this implies.

Now, I would not like to increase this workload, but just in case you still have some have time and resources available, I would suggest a Biography section for main composers,as an interesting addition.

And,
How could I (and others) propose files to upload there (mp3, pdf and midi)?

Maybe an "upload" button could be useful (but you would have to deal with additional copyright checks when receiving third party collaborations)

In ex., I made a version of the Berceuse (Op 16) by G. Faure a couple of years ago. This is one set of files I would like to upload there, if you wish.

A biography section would certainly be an interesting addition, but right now I prefer to give it minimum priority, since such informations can already be found on Wikipedia. I strive to concentrate on original content.

As you guessed, I cannot allow free uploads. If you want to send me some files you should send me a message with the contact form on the site, specifying your email address, so that I can reply with my email address. Once you have this address you can send me the files. I know this sounds complicated, but in order to prevent spam I prefer not to put the address on the site.

Thanks for the web site. Very useful.

I would ask for the score of:
"Marche funebre d'une marionette", by Gounod.
"The way we were", by Marvin Hamlisch.

Thanks. Gracias.
