Yea, that is a little over the top. It is not very attractive either. It looks like someone just glued a black pearl on their old instrument. Now that that idea has come to fruition, heaven knows what other companies might come up with! LOL :-)

I'm sure someone thinks it's pretty.

Not me, though.

I don't think a tiny Amethyst is over the top. it is not huge sitting on top of the crown. And yes, I do take offense to that since you knew I was the one selling it. Why did I even bother coming back on this site anyway?

Bye!

well if ya think a pearl or a amethyst is to much then my crown must be way over the top considering it is in 18ct gold with a thai blue 1.5ct sapphire with 107 x 0.2ct white brilliant cut diamonds completly covering the dome and the edge that normaly has the grip has 85 x 0.2ct princess cut white diamonds running in a channel total diamond weight 3.84 cts.

i got bored at work one day and thought why not and considering the amount of normal work i have got through people seeing it makes me think it was one of the best things i ever did

Kara - Please don't take offense at my inquiry. Yes, I knew the amethyst crown was yours, but my question was not meant as an attack or put-down. That's why I ended it with a smiley face. I was simply trying to understand why you consdier your's attractive and the pearl too much. I can imagine that a goth flutist would find the black pearl attractive.

I'm sure some folks like the John Lunn flutes and crowns while others may find some of his creations over-the-top. http://www.lunnflutes.com/crowns.html
For example, who wants a crown with a snail or turtle? Some do, some don't.

Again, sorry if you were offended (it TRULY was not intended to offend), but I'm simply trying to understand why one creation is considered asthetically pleasing while the other is not. It's obviously subjective, but maybe this is somewhat of a Mars-Venus thing. Maybe someone will make crowns with football team logos so that the guys don't feel left-out. Hey, maybe I could get a crown made from a chrome-plated lug nut!

oops - "consdier" should have been "consider"

Well we make things that people ask for. If you don't like it, someone else does. Don't buy it if it's not your style. Someone who likes it will buy it.

It's a decorative crown. And yes, we do get requests for them, just like any other accessory. We've made a diamond encrusted D# key cup for someone who wanted one too.

No need to fuss over accessories

oh i dident realise this pearl cap was made by pearl i'm sorry to say but if that is an example of there workmanship that is one brand of flute i'll never consider buying i could allmost guarantee that pearl will last a month if that before it falls off

and as for the engraveing it looks like a practice piece from a first year aprentice oviously thay lack quality control now i understand why any flautist of note dont play a pearl

Sorry, I opened my mouth about this whole thing. A friend and I just saw it on ebay and had a reaction, so I just thought I would share with others. I guess that was a mistake. I will shut up from now on.

Wow, All that from looking at a picture of a crown in an ebay sale?

Talk about people having issues! I'm just astounded.

lol well joe issues no only isues i have is with sub standard workmanship and yes easily seen from the pics listed happy to go into full detail the pearl is glued onto the top of the crown at most it will have been half drilled with a 1mm silver wire going into the pearl and soldered to the crown if it was a earing that would be fine but on a crown no matter how carefull you are it will get bumped once the glue cracks and it will the only thing holding it on is the fine post
the engraveing is very rough on the large half circles you can easily see where thay have stoped and started as the borders are quite jaggerd the gravers used were reletivly blunt as if thay were corectly sharpened and the face polished there would be bright smooth cuts with out the stoping and starting

to corectly cut the circles it should be done in 1 movement now i think i can speak from experience considering i am a manufacturing jeweller by trade and hold a Bsc in earth science
a BA in visual arts (gold and silversmithing) Dip Gemmology Dip advanced diamond technologies i'm a registed valuer and have been manufacturing handmade fine jewellery for about 15 years exibited in 11 countrys won a number of international manufacturing and design awards and was rated as one of the top 10 jewellers in Australia.

I personally prefer Kate's work over the other pearl crown because it is more tasteful. The other is rather antique or Baroque if you will. I also think that cast style around it is too much.
For personalized custom crowns there is also:

Another issue with the Pearl crown, will it fit in the case with that thing sticking out or will it get damaged?

I'm actually surprised, Joe, that you are not claiming it enhances the tone, because of being natural, just the right density, and sticking out, and so firmly attached, allowing the sound waves to slosh around and grow in richness. Wouldn't that sell more?

Micron. You are making me laugh too hard this morning...

Maybe it has the mystical property of radiating tone spherically out in all directions

Bilbo: as to the case. This crown was a standard issue some years ago on a Pristine silver model called "Gem Maesta" It does require a special case to accommodate the pearl. (a cutout in the blocking)

Adam, you say you don't have any issues but you come publicly out of nowhere with no flute design/acoustics/engineering/mechanical background to disparage a whole flute series and flute company based on an ebay picture of a crown and then take the opportunity to promote yourself. That's really bad form and detracts from any "professional clout" you may have had. You've certainly have destroyed any claim of professionalism based on your remarks to date.

If you or anybody has an opinion on the crown like or dislike, fine. I have no problem with people not liking it, nor do I have a problem with professional engravers making comments on the engraving level or skill. I do have an issue with the approach which is categorically unfair, delivered with malice, and in poor taste.

It's exactly like I said before. If you like it and and want it, you buy it. If you don't like it don't buy it.

It's time for Adam to start using punctuation in his posts again. I believe we've asked him to do that previously to ease reading. Stream of consciousness isn't very pleasant on a computer monitor!
