Hello (again) guys! I'm auditioning for the senior soloist competition in our state, and we need to play a piece that is less than 10 minutes long, and that has piano accompaniment (for audition), and then orchestral accompaniment (for the winner). This is a very prestigious competition, and the winner gets to play with the Delaware Symphony Orchestral. Does anyone have any good ideas for showy pieces that fit the requirements, but that are also catchy and will entertain the judges? I was going to play Themes from Carmen but even at full speed, but it is 11 minutes long and I don't want to cut any of it out. Any ideas?

Let's see...

Chaminade (but that's overdone)
Poeme by Griffin can be with orchestra

I know of others, the names just escape me (there's a solo concerto competition that's underway at my school right now with similar criteria).

I agree that the Chaminade may be overdone, at least in my state.
Poem by Charles Griffes is a good bet. With its orchestral accompaniment, it is fabulous, in my opinion.
You could do a movement from a Mozart concerto, or Telemann's Suite for Flute and Strings? Perhaps the Godard Suite?
Good luck as you prepare! And have fun!

Given I love the Griffes too...but is it too long? I cannot remember. I think the Hue Fantasie is Flute and Orchestra.

From what I've seen, it's around 9 minutes long. Just short enough for my piece. :3
