I'm using this as an audition piece for university auditions in March. I'm not really sure what tempo the allegro 2/2 sections are supposed to go. All the recordings and YouTube videos I've listened to have markedly different tempos. I have no idea what speed would be best for an audition.

On another note, the music application for one of the universities I'm applying to is very vague. There is a section called "repertoire: recent/current." I'm not sure if that means specific books/pieces I've played, what genera (classical/jazz) or my planned audition repertoire. I emailed them last week and they still have not gotten back to me.

Any help with this would be great!

Hi! I don't know if I am too late, but I played this piece earlier this month for an audition! I just went the same tempo, but just went into cut time.

As for the "repertoire" thing, I think they want to know what you plan to audition on. I know one of my applications had that (telling me to pick 2 different pieces, one old, one recent) but since this solo has both contrasting styles, you only need to put that. I don't knoe for sure, but that is what I think lol :P

Yeah your answer is a bit late. They eventually got back to me about what "repertoire: recent/current" meant. They said to put any repertoire I've played recently and/or am playing now, and I could include my audition pieces if I wanted to.

For the ballade, I talked to the flute instructor at one of the schools I'm auditioning at and she said to only play it as fast as I can manage, and not to try to take it faster if my fingers can't handle it.

Thanks anyway!

When I had the lesson with the flute instructor at the university, she said I could pick a spot to stop in the middle of the piece and only play to there due to time. The only spots I could find where I would like to stop are bars 52 and 126. 126 would be too long and they would cut me off long before I get there, but 52 seems kind of short. I timed it, and it was between 2 and 3 minutes to get to 52. Does that seem too short? If so, any suggestions in a good spot to stop before 126?
