I`ve got the feeling that there are 3 octaves in E and F according to how hard I blow.
I`m not sure how hard I should blow to reach the second octave but the tone is just horrible.

Any advice?

i think it depends on ure fingering.
in a normal student flute, there are 3 octaves of E and F.

to get the 2nd octave, place much pressure when blowing but not too much. if you blow too soft, you will get the low E.
keep trying till you get a clear sound

It`s not just about blowing hard. You aren`t really supposed to change how much air is coming out of your lungs, but rather the speed and direction of it coming out of your mouth. Do a search online and see what comes up. There are experts who can explain the minute changes much more eloquently than I.
