Playing flute for 4 1/2 years... I don`t know who are the best flutist now... I am only curious...
Do you know someone... do you already meet him/her???

I would have to say Rhonda Larson. I love her whole style and technique of playing. I have met her and she is a really sweet person.

And does she has any cd`s... `cause I don`t really know her....

eeek James Galway!Well then again I have never heard Rhonda Larson.Was Julius Baker considered America`s greatest flutist before he died?

I personally enjoy Sir James Galway. But I also enjoy Jean Pierre Rampal and Rhonda Larson. I have also listened to Alexa still online and think she plays wonderfully but don`t have any of her CD`s yet.

Well... actually I know Sir James Galway ( but I am not sure if he is one of the best flutist )... I met him already... he done a masterclass here in Milan,Italy... and I partecipated, because my teacher said that it will be great if we will attend that masterclass...
My teacher was a student of Sir James Galway... infact now he is using a muramatsu gold flute 14k, during our class and his concerts and I think that he own it from James Galway...

James Galway is the most well know and a terrific flutist that has all the record companies, but I wouldn`t define anyone as being "the best."
There are far to many brilliant flutist out there today with there own style and technique. It is all in the ear of the beholder.

uh is all you rich peeps care about is who is the best? i think if you are the best flutist you can be then you are the best, who cares who went to what school, or who has CD`s i think the best performers come from the worst backgrounds

You are so right! I think it is one of the most annoying questions when after I meet someone or play for them they alway ask:
Who did you study under? Or Where did you go to school? Or.. better yet, What brand of flute do you play on?

I can`t believe no-one here has mentioned Emmanuel Pahud

...as for Rampal`s recordings, you may be disappointed. AMAZING technique, but before buying recordings you need to be aware that like most flute players of the time, he didn`t play in tune

...and in response to "why do u want to no", I`m not rich. I worked to pay for my flute. You are right that not all great players have a lot of CDs. Most don`t, but unless you have the money to travel the world listening to flute players, you need to make use of what is available to you
