I am a freshmen in high school, and I`ve been playing since fourth grade. I got braces around 3 months ago, and I remember I couldn`t play my flute for about a week. I had to change my embrochure, but I noticed that my sound is a lot fuzzier and airy than it was before I had braces. Is this okay, and how can I make my sound more clear? Also, if you`ve had braces while playing and had them taken off, is it also hard to get used to playing the flute without the brackets?

I havn`t experienced this myself, but I know someone who made huge improvements to her tone shortly after getting her braces taken off.

I have braces and I started to learn flute after I got braces. I noticed that my sound was really airy too but it went away with practice. I know that I had atime playing my clarinet after I got them on because I had to readjust my mouth but that too does go away with some practice. most of it is that your mouth is trying to creat the same shape but has only a little less room to creat the embrocher. I wish you luck. Just keep practicing.

If you still want reassurance, I have had braces since sixth grade, am an now in highschool, expecting another year of braces. I am also second chair in our band. So... once you get used to them, its not so bad. I play sax, but have teached myself a little clarinet, flute, baritone ect. I cought on fine, and know many other people, flute players and trumpet players, who have braces.

i had somewhat of a hard time adjusting to it, and i`ve noticed sometimes my tone is still a bit fuzzy compared to what it used to be..
i played piccolo and when i got my bottom braces on... that was a bit harder of a task.
i still have mine on so i`m not sure about when it`s taken off... i`ve been told that it`s different for the first week or so and then you get used to it
