Having a look at a second hand Buffet and putting the serial number into the Buffet website returns
http://www.buffet-crampon.com/en/instruments.php

Brand : Buffet Crampon
Instrument : BC 1131
Serial number : 234990
Year of manufacturing : 01/05/1983

What model does this translate to
a B11 or B13 ?

Thanks

Just spotted another on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150178619317&indexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

Appears to be a B13 from 1987 Serial Number 297821

??

I'm new at this game but I hold in my hand a prospective purchase and what I am assured by my music teacher (whom I trust and who is a professional instrument restorer) is a Buffet R13. Its serial number returns the same model reference BC 1131 of a similar date.

Of course Buffet might have been lazy about how they entered model numbers on their database!

The Buffet website only really returns the serial numbers of R-13 and other professional clarinets.

the BC prefix is just that a prefix.

for more info about Buffet and pics of the different models (some, not all) and much more info go here

all Buffets should have serial numbers whether made in France or Germany

the serial numbers are on both joints, on the bottom of each joint near the tenons. Take a good close look - they should be there.
