Hi!
I have played on a Buffet B12 the last 7 years and it has served me well, but having just graduated high school and looking to pursue music further, it is time for an upgrade. I have heard that the Buffet R13 is the best around, but it is very expensive. Are there any other clarinets you would recommend to somebody looking to continue clarinet at uni, obtaining a Bachelor of Music? Also, can anybody explain what the difference is between the R13 and the R13 Prestige - and is it worth to pay the extra for the Prestige?
Thank you very much!

There is not much of a difference between the R13 and R13 Prestige. The main differences are that the Prestige has silver keys and an alternate Eb key and the bore size. They aren't my favorite, but they are by no means bad horns. I play on a 1953 buffet R13, the newer Vintage line of R13's was modeled after the 1950's R13s and I think they play wonderfully. I would honestly look for someone selling an older R13, in my experience used is better than new. As clarinets age they get better so if you can find one that has been well taken care of and is in good shape, buy it.

You should upgrade to the Leblanc Bliss, one of the newest clarinets in the market, great for intermediate players and has great sounds. Check it out here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280651670406&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
