in the F concert scale, our director told us first clarinets to practice starting from open G to the clarion G to the altissimo G. i can get it out pretty easily, but there isn`t a whole lot of difference from F# to G. is F# usually really sharp and G really flat or are they both sharp? or is G flat? lol thank you.

not sure what you mean...i know what range you`re talking about...F# would have the middle, ring, and pinky down on the top joint, as well as the thumb, and then for G,you lift up your ring finger and place down your pointer finger on the lower joint...as well, to get it on pitch, you have to hold the Eb key (the FACE one, but not the rest of the fingers...just that side key) down in the altissimo range

so hold down the Eb/Ab key on the lower joint, or the Eb key on the side? im not sure what you meant. yeah i am talking about getting those notes in tune

If your clarinet is playing that out of tune you should take it to a repair shop to have it checked out.
You should also use a tuner to see whether the note is sharp or flat and change your embouchure depending on which way the note(s) are tuning.

The writer before was meaning the Eb/Ab key on the lower joint.

The side key...it`s normal for the altissimo register to be off unless you hold down the side Eb key...so you DON`T need to take it in for repair.

If this girls clarinet is saying she is playing the same note when going from F# to G then there could be a problem. If she doesn`t get this problem fixed by changing her embouchure, or by placing other keys down then she should take it in.

DON`T be so fast to saying someone shouldn`t do something and try and make other people look like idiots.

Also what "side" key are you talking about? Are you talking about a clarinet that has 17+ keys? I`m not sure but I use the Ab/Eb key on the lower joint when playing in the altissimo.

I`m speaking of the one on the right hand side of the lower joint that you hold down when you play the Eb that is in the open space on the treble cleff. Apology accepted as well.

OH! I understand now. We were both talking about the same key but the other girl was asking about the side key that you hold down when you play the chalumeau Eb (first line in the treble clef).

i thought altissimo g was played LH: 2, RH: 1,2, clarion Eb key, not LH:2, RH:1 clarion Eb. can someone clear this up for me? or are they all acceptable fingerings depending on your pitch (as in, one is sharper the other is flatter so you can pick the one that is appropriate for your current intonation)?

There are many different fingerings for most of the notes in the altissimo register. They affect pitch, response and tone colour. It all depends on the player and the instrument which one is chosen.
