Hmmmm
Did you mean to say Klezmer style of music?
Because if you did- I am learning as well- and i might be able to help you, although always try to keep Klezmer as a hobby, and concert as your main style if you want to become serious in music or already are......

I think that Klezmer is the traditional Jewish style of clarinet. Greek style is related I`m sure. If you`re interested, you can look up musicians like George Mangas or Petro-Lucas Halkias. Do you know of any examples of Klezmer music that I can look up?

I would definately like to hear some live greek clarinet in the US. If you are playing anytime soon, or know of a place on the east cost or near chicago that I can hear Greek clarinet, I would like to know. I am also trying to learn more (or find books) about Greek scales or rhythms. If you have any information, email me at cdoulgeris@hotmail.com
thanks

I do not play the clarinet, however I am learning the Greek/Turkish zourna. If you cannot find books on Greek rhythms and scales, try searching for Turkish or Armenian folk rhythms and scales. Greeks, Turks, and Armenians all use the same core rhythms in their folk and popular music.

Here is a Website that offers a music camp in Middle Eastern instruments. It is located in the east coast and the teachers are prominent virtuous in Greece, Turkey, and abroad. The clarinet teacher is named SOUREN BARONIAN.

Good Luck!

Is anyone out there still following this topic? My name is Eve, I live in Chicago and I play Greek and Klezmer clarinet. The best players in Chicago that I know of are Jim Stoynoff and Mike Annis, but you have to crash a private wedding to hear them. In the summer they play at church picnics (fund raisers) but the music is more bouzouki oriented. I love the music of Mangas and Xalkias, Soukas and Saleas but there are lots of others as well. If your near New York, check out George Stathos, he plays Turkish as well as Greek clarinet and blends the styles quite nicely.

Anyone know how to get in touch with Jim Stoynoff? I`m also trying to find out where he`s playing in the next few months.

I live in CT so it`s hard for me to get updated info for the Chicago area.

Thanks, Joan.

Greetings clarinet enthusiasts,I play violin, and as you know its like peanut butter and jelly with the clarinet.I especially enjoy Dimotika and have had the honor of playing with some excellent Greek clarinetists from Detroit and Windsor.
