ok I told you I`m trying out for the county band (refer to the other section). I have the song totally nailed, but I`m still nervous. I have to play the B-flat scale, 1 octave, the C scale, 2 octaves, and the C chromatic scale, 2 octaves. Then I have to play assorted parts from the audition piece, "American Riversongs". I`m still really nervous though. Can anyone help me overcome my nervousness? The audition isn`t until mid-October, but my band teacher is listening to us tomorrow, right before we hand in the forms so that he can approve us.

Nerves are good. All the best performers get nervous before a big performance. The trick is not to be nervous once you`re on stage. Try to look on the nerves in a positive way - they are `your friend`, helping you to focus on this important event.
Good luck!

Don`t worry too much, and relax and have fun! This is the whole point of music and why you take it, so have fun with it. Nervousness you can`t always escape but if you really love to perform, then just play with your heart and don`t worry about the other people.

Hi. I am in the 7th grade and I also play the oboe. You shouldn`t get to nervous if you know you are good. I always play my part infront of my sister, and my mom and dad and that takes some of your nerves away.

Frequent performance is a great way to help jitters. Also, before you start, take a few deep breaths and stretch out your back, ideally you should put your reed in its case for stretching, for obvious reasons. I`ve also heard that potassium (bananas as example) helps calm nerves.

Well, I know its a long time after, but I didn`t make it. I came in 3rd out of 12 oboes, and they only took 2 oboes. I thought I did really well though.

I`m in the same situation. I was selected for governors school and have to audition in February. I have to select a piece for it, but I hope to make it. Wish me luck!!!
