Hi, just a quick question here. I've been called on to play the English horn for my school's legacy orchestra and UIL, and after practicing the English horn and the oboe today, I've realized that playing the oboe seems a bit strange and awkward after getting familiar with the weight of the English horn...just wondering if playing English horn too much would affect your oboe embouchure any, in a good or bad way. Because if possible, I want to balance the two, but if playing English horn would detract from my oboe sound, then I'm a bit hesitant to commit to it.

Thanks!

It does take time to get used to the feel & characteristics of different instruments. With practice you will find changing back & forth will come much easier. In the orchestral & pit band worlds players are always having to change between the two instruments within pieces. Nobody plays just the EH - it is a useful skill to have, making you a much more useful player in all sorts of situations.
