I've started playing bassoon a couple months ago, and in the lessons I've needed to frequently play a C (With one ledger line above the staff), and I can play it, but not well. My tone is awful for that note, and the notes above it. If anyone has any general tips on how to improve your tone when playing these notes that would be great!

Thanks!

It took me a while to get used to playing those notes. Practicing long tones really helped me. Don't expect to get a good tone overnight. It was a very gradual process for me. You'll get better in time.

I've always found that C a bit tricky. It needs plenty of air support but don't be tempted to squeeze the reed to raise the pitch.

I agree with contra 448, that C is often a stuffy, thin note, and can be worse depending on your reed of the day. If you have been playing just a couple of months, don't get discouraged that you can't do those higher notes. This will come with time. Bassoon, unfortunately, is not one of those instruments you can pick up and play all the notes on right away, and have them sound good; and don't believe anyone who tells you they did it. They will be exaggerating just a tad!
