Hi I have bought a bassoon for my son and would like to find out what type it is - it has the markings on it "Oscar Fidler & Co, Markneukirchen", which when i look it up seems to want to go to "Oscar Adler & Co, Markneukirchen". I have looked and there is a serial number under the silver end cap 10896. Looking at pictures it has the same keys on the lower section as a 1357 standard Adler new.... but here is where my entire knowledge runs out - i have written to the website for adler to see if they can help but would welcome any help from your guys.

It will be 'Adler' - the stamp must have been applied badly!

Definitely the Adler Company is the company in Markneukirchen; perhaps someone else trying to start up their own company there? After the war things were pretty confused - I've never heard of that name; Contra 448 is probably right.

Looking at your message again, I see what I did not see before - the similarity of the names you gave for the make. It's definitely an Adler!
