I bought this pocket trumpet from a friend many many years ago. It was fun to play it for a while but I hadn`t touched it for at least 10 years now.

I dug it out earlier today and played a couple of scales it still sounded good (I always loved the `warm` tone I got out of it) BUT when I checked the pitch on a tuner, I discovered it`s gone sharp over the years!

What happened? Can I fix this?

if you dont play an instrument for a long time it wont sound as same as before.try to play it more often and that should do it.The intonation of the pocket trumpet isnt so accurate as the one of the normal trumpet try to fix this with your lips and air pressure.

Thanks, I`ll keep that in mind. How do trumpets change if they are not played, and how do they change back if they are played again?


About the tuning slide - the pocket trumpet doesn`t have one.

I dont know hoe to explain it to you because i am not a good english speaker.but it is because the air doesnt flow through the horn for a long time.i have 2 B trumpets myself and when i didnt play one for 1 year i practiced with it for 2 hours and the trumpet sounded better.

The trumpet is not going to change much. The horn will be dry on the inside because it has not been played for so long. Make sure the valves are well oiled. Pull out the tuning slide if you are sharp. Also not playing for years will add to the "sharpness"

If musically you havent done any work in years common sense is telling me the horn is not the problem. The tuning slide is only going to get you 70% in tune the rest is in your ear. I suggest you put the tuner to give out a pitch and sing intervals with whatever tones your tuner can produce.

it's sharp cuz u haven't played much, that simple. it could also be due to the temperature. and the tuning slide doesn't do 70% of it..where did u hear that? umm, it's all based on your ear and your mouth and air.
