Whoot. It's cause we can overpower any instrument if needed, we usually have the main melody, and we sound awesome.

Haha.

I saw this in the 'new thread' forum thingy, and I decided to stop by and tell you why clarinets own at life.

Trumpets, I am sad to say, may have a larger part in the melody, but playing a trumpet is a whole lot easier than a clarinet. I have never played a brass instrument, but upon conversations with friends who do, it seems easy enough. With a clarinet there are so many factors that can go into your sound, and so many variations on how you can play. A trumpet is just loud and monotone. A clarinet is changing and varying.

Now I don't agree that a trumpet can overpower any instrument if needed.

I play tuba, but that's obviously not the instrument that I've had experience with overpowering trumpet. One day, I picked up a trumpet and played it, but couldn't get much air through it or get much volume out at F. Then I picked up a trombone and it was a lot easier to push air through and I could easily put people at mercy of their ears without trying to play that loud. This may be because I'm a tuba player and my lips are used to that lower range. At least now I see why our trombone section doesn't sound very good. They're not using enough air! From that experience, I'd say trombone is an efficient instrument.

Personally, I feel trumpets can have colorful tone as well. Most middle school to high schoolers don't have many good trumpet players with tone, but once you hear a good trumpet player, the others sound suck. ^^

And please though, if you haven't ever tried to master the trumpet with all the air and tone, don't underate us.
C'mon, haven't you ever heard us blast?

I love clarinets though, the fingering beats us anytime. ^^

Well Maynard Ferguson (now dead) played a concert at our school last year. Would he be considered good?

Yeah. Uh, he's really good. Mostly range though. Personally I don't like him that much, but he's majorly respectable.

The reason mostly I stand out for trumpets now is because our CHS jazz band had a concert with two of our best ever trumpets. Just...they inspire me.

Here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4606189258181772905&q=cedarburg+jazz

The first soloist is Andy Dvorak, the second is Drew Fremder, both top ranking trumpets like....ever. XD

However, the difference is that Andy Dvorak is mostly range, and Drew Fremder has an excellent tone.

At that, I say all instruments have their own set of weaknesses and strengths.

Wow, some trumpet players sound stuck up. A lot. Most trumpet players probably aren't that way, but the ones that brag...are too busy bragging to be any good at the instrument.

If you're good, you know you're good and other people know it too. So you don't have to tell us if you're good or not, we can tell.

Ah well. lol, I'm not bragging about talents, I'm bragging about the instrument. XD

Anyway, let's be positive folks. What do you like about trumpets hence that this is a trumpet topic? I believe that was the question for discussion.

Perhaps this topic should read,l why are trumpets so awesome. You can't take a day off without knowing it. This is one unforgiving instrument. Sometimes I feel the better I get the more frustrated I get, there will always be something about this horn that will defeat me. The high note tease, the fast passages goad us to go faster still, yet my limit will always be reached before that of the horn.

Usualy after 3 - 4 hours of hard cambat every day

Well, my band director doessay trumpet players have big heads.(self-loving for people who don't know) I do personally think that trumpets rock but once you've seen my band director play clarinet and sax, you like them too. So... trumpets rule, but they share kingship with some woodwinds. And of course bass

Trumpets are an amazing instrument because the people playing them are amazing people. We have the style and attitude bred into us from birth and thats what keeps our music going.
