First, why do you want a pocket trumpet?
They rarely sound like real trumpets.
To answer your question no, they are not harder to play.
If you just want a cheap functional trumpet buy a used student yamaha, bach, etc..., for $100-$300. Sometimes you can even find a decent one fot under $100.
Don't waste your money on a pocket trumpet they are really just toys, it is really hard to find a decent one.

well usely the people who don't have one are the ones who say all the negative things about it. i have a jean baptiste pocket trumpet that i've recieved for christmas. the pocket trumpet is easy to play, depending on what note your trying to play like a octive of an f you have to keep that note in tune with your mouth. it's harder to keep in tune but it does have a same sound as the trumpet.

well, i wanted the pocket trumpet because it isnt a common thing you see people playing, so its different. and i have noticed upon getting it that it does sound like a trumpet, and a trumpet nut that i know said it sound beautiful and mine sounds very big band style.

thank you to those who didnt shun me for wanting one, and i see what you mean by keeping the higher notes in tune, but im getting the hang of it

Reputable makers producing pocket trumpets ate Jupiter, Benge, Holton and Kanstul, according to wikipedia.org.

Anyone tried any of these trumpets?
