well tahts all well and good..but you'll come to find that the transt=ition from middle to high school helps tremendously. I could only hit a G above the staff my 8th grade year playin 1st part, but by playing high gade 4s to grade 6's in concert band (including Star Wars by John Williams) my range developed to a C above the staff by the end of my freshman year. I'm a sophomore now, and over the 2 /2 months of summer, and prctice, my range has developed into a solid E and F, and an average G above the first G above he staff, with me only being able to pedal a low E-F. Practice makes perfect, so keep it up. You'll be good...just not as good as me! Best wishes

Well, I'm 43, I havn't touched the horn for 23 years.. IM BACK !!.. its taking time but Ive been playing now for the last 3 weeks getting my chops back.. With lots of pedal tones and scales and long warm ups I'm back to a High c. Tone is bad but Im working on it.. As an 18 yr old I left off playing F above High C solid, anything above that was on a hope and prayer and airy.. But It took me 2 years to get from High C to that F.. The resason ? Stupidity.. After walking in to class one day I heard MF playing Cameleon on the Player, with no warm up I grabbed the Horn shoved in a Double Cup I had hidden (instructor said they ere not allowed in class), and ripped it out along with the Music.. After several notes out of my range I found I ripped open my top lip with so much presure from the mpc trying to "show off". I was out 3 weeks waiting to heal, When I was done I had scared my lip and my control was gone in the upper registers for a long while.. Playing hi can be great, but do it the right way. Don't risk hurting yourself, Take time and learn to play with solid tone and control. Don't force it. I found playing Arban and Clarks studies 8va helped. Please what you can confertable. Take the scale up a 1/2 step till it's CLEAN and GORGEOUS and you hear MUSIC, then take another 1/2 step in range. It's not worth hurting your chops to hear that horn screetch out a out of tone, ugly note.. Trust me..
