I've posted here before, touting the greatness of my Calicchio trpts (all are John Duda creations that now include a sweet copper flugel). I'm writing at this time to share some news about a mouthpiece that has made a MAJOR improvement to every aspect of my playing. I've been playing a custom Bob Reeves mpc for twenty years and have always loved it. By that statement you can tell I'm not one to chase new gimmick mpcs for more range, better sound etc. Well, I was at my neighborhood music store a few months ago and noticed a mpc called The Wedge(www.wedgemouthpiece.com). For some reason I was intrigued by the concept of this mpc. So much so that for the first time in years I found myself in a practice room trying out a new mpc! I was instantly amazed at the control and center of 'core sound' it produced. Come to find out, Dr. Dave Harrison the builder of this mpc  (a good trpt player and a heck of a nice guy)lives here in Vancouver BC! I was elated with this discovery. I immediately contacted him and heard the story of how this concept came about(born out of his own necessity and extra demands on his chops).

Now to fast forward... I have been playing a 'Wedge' mpc ever since!  For me this design delivers consistency, comfort and increase in range.

Just when I thought my setup was perfect, Dr. Dave emailed me about a new twist in the cup design. He was so excited, I went over to his place the next day. It still has the same Wedge rim, but this version has a double cup feature. I took it out for a test drive and it is FANTASTIC!!! I've only had it a week now, but since then I've used it in the studio, on a loud rock gig, played a major outdoor music festival and last night used it on an intimate club date. In EVERY situation it was perfect!

Whether you're actively looking for a new mpc or not... I encourage you to try these things out! Once again you can find them at www.wedgemouthpiece.com
I'd be happy to share more on my experience with the Wedge, just respond to this post or email me through my website www.terrytownson.com

These are interesting. I haven't really been actively searching for a new mouthpiece since mine has been treating me well for years now. Something like this, however, piques my curiosity.

I am not a trumpet player, however. I play the horn. I notice on his main page he says these are unlike any trumpet, trombone, or horn mpc you've every played. But when I look in his catalog, I see no horn mpc. Only flugel, which is not going to work ;P Since you know him on a somewhat personal level, do you have any information on whether or not he plans to add horn mouthpieces in the near future? Something new and seemingly innovative like this would be the type of thing to get me to try a new mpc, and if it's as good as he says it is, I wouldn't hesitate to buy after I played and confirmed it.

Thillygooth,

I know for a fact that there are horn Wedge mpcs being played(and by some incredibly great players!). Contact Dr.Dave Harrison at the Wedge website. I don't think they are in active production, but he can fill you in as to availability.
