Hi all,

I'm currently doing an honours project on brass instrument identification using computer simulation, and have reached the stage where I need to know the geometry of various brass instruments.

Does anyone know of where I could go, or who I could ask, to find details of the geometry of brass instruments? Fully dimensioned diagrams or a 3D model would be ideal.

There's no need to remind me that I could just measure them up myself, but my reasoning for not doing that yet is that it brings in error due to inaccurate measurements, and also, I don't own the instruments being used, and musicians aren't overly keen to let them out of their sight.

The instruments being used in this project are a Bb trumpet, a cornet and a flugelhorn. They are all Bach instruments.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think your best bet would be to contact Dr. Chris Rogers at Tufts University. He is in the engineering department but has done a lot of research with instruments and not too long ago a trumpet study. He might have, or have access to some of what you are looking for.
