yeah i have been playing trombone all these years and i decided i really wanted to learn a new instrument so i started messing around with a baritone my band teacher let me use,and i figured what a better way of getting good at it than to play a solo for regionals!
I played Pearl from the trombone gems book.I only had about a month to practice it,but i did pretty well(i got a 2).The judge said i had a *very outstanding tone*(which is awsome)but he said had i taken a little more time and got a couple more notes right,i would have gotton a one.oh well!you think i should do another one or just do a trombone one? does anyone know if there are any "marches" by Karl King that someone along the line has made into a solo? i really like his marches and would love to play one with a piano accomp.

I`d say either...

Concerto for Trombone and Piano -Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov
Concertino Op.4 (i think)- Ferdinand David

all i can remember now...

i did play Arioso...arranged for Trombone and piano....

Arrrgghhhh someone had to mention it... the Rimsky Korsakov... interesting[ish] piece, played top death... ove in the UK everyone who has worked through their grades has done it at some stage or other. And people get very sick of hearing it.

Now the David Concertino ! Great piece not so much over played well worth looking at. I`m trying ot gte my local Orchestra to put on the David, as in their 50 years they have never done a trombone concerto.

As I mentioned before the Morceau Symphonique Concert Piece is an excellent piece and one I am working through at the moment so I`m a bit biased here.

Another piece to think about is the Grondahl which is an excellent piece. More technicall challenging than either of the ones mentioned so far, but depending on what you are doing, you could just pick something like the haunting 2nd movement.

Modal moods. It is a crazy piece that is great for showing off to other boners. Wait a sec for a concert dont play that. I think you should look in to "danny boy" great bone solo.

Well, really depends on what you`re looking for...

Are you looking for a short 1-3 minute piece?

or

Are you looking for a Concerto which is usually 7-16 minutes.

Now, if you are going for a short piece, I`d recommend you get the:
"Solos for Trombone" by Carl Fischer

or

"Solos for the Trombone Player" Selected and Edited by Henry C. Smith

Those two books (with piano accompaniment) has great solo selections, I played Arioso, Thoughts of Love, and other things from those two books....something you might like to look at.

basically im just looking for a short solo(1-4 mins.)to play for a judge at regionals.i really like marches(or sort of a marchy feel to them).I also love things with crazy long cadenzas(i know that sounds stupid, but i love cadenzas). Is there anything that King wrote that i could play with a piano accomp? What about ideas for baritone solos?
