i need to know if any of oyu have any good tips for making practicing morte fun and how to remember to practice becasue i always froget to practice and then my mom yells at me and my band grade get worse and worse..... yea

practice every night, how could you forget? put your horn where you are the most, and how to make it fun...who said practicing had to be fun. Just do it.

i don`t wanna do it bwecause its not fun because the music my director picked i so slow and boring. you weren`t much help

staying goal orientated is possibly the most important thing.

There has to be a reason why you pick up your horn. It cant be Exterior forces you pushing to get better. It has to be your drive to be better everytime you pick up your horn. If you dont want to practice dont, because your going to waste your own time.

My suggestion, setup a recital. do it at a church or some kind of band event or play for a bunch of your friends. This will force you to work on material that will improve your playing greatly. im planning in my spring semester to do a recital at one of our "concert hours"

so stay motivated focus on something that your not good at and go for it.

practicing isnt fun, its when you realize that you have a new skill under your belt that you never had before.

GO SEE TROMBONE PLAYERS!!!!

watch your local newspapers for events and see if there is a trombone player doing a concert or something and go see them!!!!

Good call Mas. The best way to reignite your love for your horn and make you want to go practice is to listen to people that are great. If you can`t go see live concerts (which is the best way to go) then go out and buy some good albums. But your right, it`s sometimes hard to get into the groove of practicing regularly. But once you do, and you get used to it, it`s a little easier to want to.

One thing I tell my students when they tell me they "forgot to practice", is to set up your horn in your room. Go get a trombone stand and a music stand if you don`t have them, and leave the music on the stand. That way you always see it, and it kind of cries to you for you to pick it up and blow.

Maybe I`m different, I just love to practice. Maybe not always what I am supposed to be practicing, but just playing in general. It`s my sanity, my peace in a crazy world. But I guess maybe that`s just me.

choosing to become a trombone player and being a trombone a player in a high school band are two tottally different states of mind.

you and i try to make our money playing and other play the horn to get a grade.

practice + time = money and ultimately we all need it. but you know playing music is just best thing in the world and getting paid to do it just fabulous.

i guess you od have to thnik of it as somethnig other than practicing because most people thni kof practicing as boring and hard but maybe if i think of it as like playing a concert it`ll be more fun. its mainly just because the music my director picked is SO boring!!!

Well then, don`t just practice that music. Practice other stuff. Practice technical excerpts, tone excercises, melodius etudes, things like Bach Cello Suites, or random trombone solos you like. That way you don`t get frustrated playing just stuff you don`t like, you can look forward to being done with the boring and move on to the "fun".

Who said you had to practice the band music? If you can play it well, challenge yourself to something new. Get an Etude book, or purchase some solos and start working on them. If you can`t play the music for band, set that as a goal and enjoy making music.

Yes, seriously, I would have to agree with the post above me. Band music can be quite boring. Evan though you should practice it, get yourself some etude books. As for me, I have many professional solos that I practice.
Among my fav. would have to be "Blue bells of Scotland", A concertino by Ferdinanad David, & Vocalise`s by Rachmaninov.
I find Band music to be boring.
But, I still play it, for a little while, then I go to the fun stuff.
