The horn i tried today was like the palatino model but with a larger bore.What i was told was that it is a single trigger bass trombone.I really liked it and will be keepin my eyes on it.

<Added>

People who work at those small music stores aren't very knowledgeable. What you actually tried was probably a .547 bore single valve trombone. That would make it a large bore tenor, not a bass. Sometimes non-trombonists call any trombone with a valve a "bass" trombone, simply because they don't know any better.

Make sure you do not get an actual bass trombone. From what it sounds like, it will hinder your development at this point in time, and make the high register very tough to play.

OK, after researching the 421-G, it is an intermediate bass trombone (.563 bore). For marching band and most concert band music you do not need one. Bass trombones have a deeper sound and are more difficult to project on. Make sure that you get a tenor trombone (.525 or .547 bore).

Agreed.. unless bass bone is the direction you are wanting to go. But the Yamaha tenor trombones in that price range are not bad horns at all. (FYI..Yamaha tenor bones are YSL-xxx... bass bones are YBL-xxx)
I also agree about the knowledgable sales staff comment. I used to work for a fairly big chain of stores (I won't say who). It was really sad just how little they cared about you musical background when they hired you. They wanted sales experience. The problem is you can't train a non-instrumentalist about certain things. There is knowledge that only experience will provide.
I will echo my earlier advice.. if you're that lost in the process, take an experienced player with you when you try the horns out. The wrong salesman will only tell you what you want to hear, or what they want you to buy.
What part of the country do you live in?

March with a student model. Marching with an expensive trombone isn't worth it- you'll get turf in the trigger, dings, scratched laquer, broken spit valves...etc. For a nice concert horn, go try a Bach 42T. I've only been playing for 9 months, so you may want to disregard my opinion, but the Thayer valve is very smooth and does not hinder the movement of air, and it also works nicely for jazz, even though it is a large bore trombone.

If you play a large bore horn in jazz, chances are that the trumpets will always drown you out. A small bore horn acts more like a laser beam and really cuts through.

I spoke too soon.My band director suggested either a bach or a getzen.Seeing that bach is on strike i thought i might look at some getzens.I saw one that i liked:The Getzen 525 Capri...Check it out,see what you think,tell me your opinion of it...Thank you for reading and comments are appreciated.

Ok, time for a bit of a rant here....
Does your band director even play trombone????? I mean as his or her major, not as is they took the semester of brass tech in college. Here's my point. Before going into the Navy music program, I worked for a music store. It used to drive me nuts when a kid would find a horn they liked, only to bring it back because the band director didn't like the brand. One day, one kid had a bad horn, and band director black lists them forever. And often times the band director isn't even a brass major. Maybe he is, maybe not.
All I'm saying is, play what you like and what you are comfortable with. Your director, for all their good intentions really have no say in the matter. Suggestions are just that.

getzens are good horns, but yeah, of you like that yahama, get it, don't let someone tell you something that you may not like as much. Just because your band director tells you something about it doesn't mean its not what you should get...like the saying if he tells you to jump off a bridge, would you do it. Same concept here...go with what YOU want.

Okay,today is my birthday and my party was two days ago.While me and all my friends were sitting there eating pizza,my dad comes into my kitchen out of nowhere(he doesnt live with me).I thought to myself why he was there until he pulled up out of his hand the most beautiful trombone case i had ever seen.SURPRISE!It was a Bach Stradivarius 42BO,it plays very well,and i absolutely love it.So my quest is over(thank god)and thank you all for your help.
