Alright, so where i am at is the only thing i can do is make a sound out of it. So, i need major help on slide postitons. Like i don't know where they are, what number they are, or anything like that. If any one has a chart or is really good at explaining then please help! I am a woodwind player so this is challenging for me. Any help or tips or suggestions are welcome. TY!

I'm going to do my best. This is a challenge. I think everybody here will agree that this is really tough to explain without pictures and showing stuff sooo here I go. Its out of order....

1st Position... all the way in
(notes Bb F Bb D F Bb so on....)

3rd Position... its approximately half an inch before the bell of the trombone.
(notes... Ab Eb Ab C Eb Ab)

2nd Position... Aim for halfway between 1st and 3rd.
(notes... A E A Db E (tight2nd- G) Ab)

4th Position... its a little after the bell Try to match the D pitch in 1st position with a D in fourth for help.)
(notes... G D G B D G)

6th Position... Arm extended almost all the way, but not at after the little indentation on the inner slide try matching an F in 1st position to an F in sixth
(notes... F C F A C F)

5th Position... my least favorite position. try to eyeball it between 4th and 6th again. you'll know right away becasue you'll probably hate it too.
(notes... Gb Db Gb Bb Db Gb)

7th Position... almost all the way out. Try to match octaves with the B natural in 4th with the low B natural in 7th
(notes... E B E Ab B E)

Keep in mind ALL TROMBONES ARE DIFFERENT!!!! it takes some tuning. If you work with a tuner, just work at it. some notes are naturally flatter or sharper than others. but that I guess is the best I can do with the basics. If you need Trigger stuff post back. I'll see what I can do. I hope this was helpful. If anybody wants to try to add to this, Im sure Im not the only kid here who can try to help.

^^^ thats the basics...I'll tell you stuff that i wished I learned whe I first started on trombone. There are basics, and then there is the more than basics that if you start out when you first start, It will be a whole lot easier when you get into more challenging music.

#1, go to a music store, if you don't have one locally, look on the internet, buy a metronome and tuner/ toner...the toner can come in very useful as well.

when you get a horn, tune to a concert Bb (as of right now when you start out (keep this stuff in mind) not to a F.) When you start out, use the tuner, a beginniers book, and a slide postion chart.
but my point is to go ahead and learn the 6th parcial, another kick out the notes on the bass clef staff from F

to a concert B natural

if you go ahead and learn that with the tuner than you won't have to come back and re learn that.

But the real thing that would help out the most above all else is a private teacher. Look in the area for someone, they can help out more than words on a webpage.

as far as slide position charts, I don't want to sound cocky, but either look back in this forum and find a link that I've or anyone else has posted. Or simply go to google. But I'm not going to do that since its common and If you want to take playing serisouly, than do something that we don't have to do since that would probably take a long long time

good luck
