I found an old trombone in my grandfathers shed so I got it out gave it a bath in warm water with some Dawn and oiled it and greased it. After all that I still noticed that it still had a smell of metal or musk on it I am wanting to know how to get rid of the smell as well as the green tarnish on it.

It is a Vincent Bach Stradivarius Model 42, it's lacquer has warn in some places and is about 30-40 years old. Once I get it fixed up what would it be worth selling, if so, for how much?

The Bach 42 is one of the most widely professional trombone.

You say it's 30-40 years old. How many digits does the serial number have (you can find it under the inner slide handle), and what are the first 2 or 3 numbers? Knowing this will help you determine its age.

Also, does it have an F-attachment or is it a straight horn?

As for selling it, depending on its state, it may need some repair work (is the slide smooth?). But a used 42 in good playing order will usually go for 1000-1500$ (unless it's a Mt. Vernon - made between 1953 and 1964, in which case it might well sell for over 2500$).

What is engraved on the bell (aside from Vincent Bach Stradivarius Model 42)?
