I am an 11 grade student who really enjoys music(I know how to play every insturment in my band, except flute.....that`s coming soon). I really really need a new trombone. My slide sucks and it`s hard to adjust to fine-tune because the slide sticks. I need to convince my parents to get me a new one(I`m looking at a Bach Stradavarious) and I need to know HOW to convince them to get me it. Thanks. Darrell.

hey man good luck with that one bc parents dont really seem to understand the need for trombone! well anyways i suggest maybe getting your director to talk to them or maybe you could get a friend to really screw up the slide really bad (hey man its what i would do) but you should only do that if theyll get you a new one. nice horn your looking at. i play it and its such an awsome horn, trust me its worth it.

Flute is an awesome instrument, but anyways...
I had the same thing, except I never had my own to begin with, since I`m still using the school trombone. Hmm... I think you should look on e-bay for some good ones, that`s where I got mine. Or you could at least find one there for really cheap and get it fixed. However you convince your parent`s, I hope it works.

I just convinced my parents earlier this year to get me a new t-bone. And I ended up with a Bach Strat too. I really like it! What I did was sit down with them and talk to them about how I would be able to play so much better with a new bone. I also reassured them that I would play it past high school. Another thing that really helped was getting my private lesson teacher involved. He talked to them and explained the benifits of a new t-bone. He also went to the music store to try out the bones we were looking at and showed my parents the good bones and stuff. Good luck!!!

i got the omega and it gets old fast, im trying to get a strat with a thayer valve, gold brass, and of course open wrap. Tell your folks that a strat will last as long as you do in music, it works!

one thing to try is take them to a music store and let them hear the difference in how you play with a new horn. also make sure that you go with a larger bore if you are going to be in an orchastra setting. plus before you go convince them that if you get a good horn (such as a strad) that the money (while it may seem a lot) will be well spent and last you a while.

I had trouble convincing my parents the first time getting me a horn. But if you can justify it by explainging what you plan on doing with it and so on im sure they will understand. definitly get your teachers involved but also make sure you have them convicned too!

remember my first horn... parents refused to pay for it. had to work for it...

Have you had the slide dr look at your slide? I know you want a new bone but.....Sorry to be the spoiler here you should get your slide fixed it wont cost to much and besides i know some of the mom and pop music stores will give you trade in value against a horn that works. Also shop around if you go to mom and dad and say mom I want this 2600 dollar horn(or what ever the highest price you can find for the horn.)then turn around and say I found it on sale for 1995 (or the best price you can get) it is a lot easier sell. Or you could do what i did to my wife(wiked laughter) I went out and found the most expensive horn i could added some accessories and custom work to the bid and it came out a little over 6 grand. Then i said Hun i want this 6 grand horn (of course she was like no way in hell) I then said i could settle for a 3500 dollar horn no custom work (which i then found for 2800)and spent the rest on new mp and custom work. if all this doesnt work go sleep with the neighbors wife take pictures then try extortion. (just kidding)
