How good are they ? Supposedly there is the Genial - Gems - GAMA and Maestro versions. I am thinking of getting a GEMS 2 Since the GAMA costs almost 1000$. It is of Romanian origin, I know upto that part. I read a lot of testimonies in their site, but I would put more trust when words from a group of musicians who can give a fair review. So help me out .. thanks

HA!, I can find like a million of those instruments on www.ebay.com .There is nothing special about those instruments, but just to the fact that they are popular and people want them. I would take any old antique instrument over a new one.

I guess antiques always have their value.. but when buying antiques, the condition of the instrument and the cost involved in fixing it (if it has any damages) has to be asessed and that requires skill and knowledge. I myself would always go for an antique over a new one, but sometimes, the options are limited i guess..

I happen to own a birds eye maple gliga visile,and it is one of the best violins I have ever played for less than $10000.these are concert quality violins.I am a solo violinst.

I have an old antique cello worth about $500, but to buy one that sounds the same I would have to spent around $15,000. The older an stringed instrument gets, the better it sounds.

Interesting that this thread has such recent replies...I found it on a search engine as I was trying to research Gliga for myself. I`m considering getting a Gama viola to replace the awful student instrument I used throughout school...they`re available on ebay for $600. For a master shop instrument you can`t beat that price, and the reviews I`ve found seem to range from good to great.

I`ve established contact with one of the distributors customer service reps and recently sent him an intensive email. We`ll see how he responds. If anyone has any additional information I`d appreciate it.

I am also hoping to find out more about the student `Genial` gliga violins. Their website looks good, (violinlovers.com) but it doesn`t seem to have secure online ordering.

They are the best violins for the price, by a very long way, at least at the prices they are sold for on ebay or by us. We have never yet had one back.

We recently bought 2 student genial violins from Gliga and we are pretty happy with them. They are good for the price.
We bought a 1/4 size for our daughter, which turned out to be pretty stylish with only one flaw,- when it arrived the saddle was unglued; but my husband was able to take care of that himself with some wood glue and clamp and so it looks fine now. The second violin we purchased a few days later for my husband because he was insprired to learn with my daughter and its pretty nice too although not as stylish looking as the 1/4 size because of a slight difference in color but that is a personal preference I`m sure.

I am also very happy with my daughter`s new Gliga Violin. I`ve bought one in 1/4 size as well, (a Gems I) and I can say that the teacher was absolutely sure I`ve made the best possible choice. Check out this web site: www.violinslover.com
