What`s important in bowing?

I`m doing a study for a product design course, and I`ve decided to base it on violin bowing. I would appreciate it if any long time violin players, professionals or teachers (or all three!) could give me an insight as to what the `perfect bowing` technique would be (if it exists, that is!)

If not, what makes it good? I know about being perpendicular to the strings, but that`s about it!

Any Ideas? Thanks

Bowing is to violin as flying the line is to fly fishing--it`s a complex art of it`s own in my opinion. Unlike other instruments a violinist is always working on bowing technique long after they have developed their personal style. So perfect bowing exists on two levels. The first level seems to be simply the ability to make the bow produce the sound one desires in creating basic and even complex sounds. The next level, or the level that never ends, involves going beyond one`s personal style in any of several advanced bowing tecniques. Incidently I meet none of the qualifications you seek as being quotable--six month player.
