There seams to be a big deal about not buying a Chinese violin.
Could anyone explain to me what the difference between a Chinese violin and any other violin is? Should I buy one? Are they good quality? Do you they have a good tone?
Thanks

At a particular price range, you will only get Chinese violins. There is a point above that - but still in the student range - where you can get Chinese, Romanian, Bulgarian, German etc. At that price range the Chinese compete well and it will come down to preference. All the Chinese violins I have ever tried are brighter in tone than the European violins I have tried in the same price range. The issue is with the budget end rather than with mid priced violins. The other issue is the importers who try to make Chinese violins look like German or Italian ones by giving them silly names, that is deliberately misleading.

Would you buy a Chinese violin?

Liz: I would if it was what I wanted. Personally I like my violins dark so most Chinese violins are too bright for my tastes.

I think I agree with you... I want a dark sounding violin.
Thanks for all your help!
