Help. Im new student. The tuning pegs keep slippning making it impossible to tune. The book says to use candle wax but its only worse. Maybe i dont know how to do it. Its a $250 instrument.

Hi,

You may apply some chalk on to the pegs after removing it from the hole. If that does not fix it, take the violin to the nearest music shop and they might be able to fix it.

Hello,,,
NOOO wax geeez who suggested that????? nor soap!! use a bit of graphite ,,,,, piano tuners have it in small tubes......... it is very very fine fine dust,,, and it sticks making the tuners..
also where the strings are placed is important to non-slipping of tuning pegs,,,
i would be willing to explain this if interested,,,
please reply,,,

You just ran into one of the many problems with low priced violins, poorly fitted pegs.

You can try something called "peg dope" or "peg drops" but use sparingly. I think chalk might provide a temporary fix but in the long run will likely make matters worse.
