It`s okay It`s just forum life anyway, nothing important is to be lost or gained. I was arguing on the side of the viola, so I was trying to think of a comparison that might irritate me if I was a saxophonist. For some reason it seems saxophonists post on this thread.

who ever heard of a viola doing gigs?

Depends on how you define "gigs". If you mean the viola performing solo or in groups then I can assure it`s quite a common thing for violists. There are even a few internationally known virtuosos at the moment.
If you mean in pop music... well, the viola isn`t a pop music instrument.

well, drums for one, piano, guitar, sax even. But violins (of course) have been introduced into the world of pop. Like, bond...a bunch of teen angsty frat girls with violins...oh yea, and they are foreign to US. Great stuff...
