hey everybody. i play viola and really enjoy it. i have come across a lot of people who have made fun of violas and claim that violins are better. for all you who do hate violas: do you dislike violas for some particular reason or is it simply that violins are more popular?

I don`t think people hate violas they just don`t get
as much attention as the violins for some reason. My sister plays the violin and her best friend plays viola, but I guess it just depends on what the person wants to hear. Well don`t feel like people hate the viola--- the orchestra couldn`t do it without you!

well thanks for that... but i still can`t help but feel that there is some sort of resentment people feel. oh well. i`m probably just overreacting!

Well I have been playing the Viola for about an year. My friend plays the violin and everyone pays more attention to her. But violas are great and i love my viola.

there wouldn`t be this whole stereotype thing going on with the viola, if there wasn`t some truth it....huh....

Well, jake, if you`d like to inform all of us as to what that truth is, please do...

I was looking at this history of music thing in one of the music books i just bought, and it said that the viola, although probably the worst instrument for your health(literally), was the probably the basis for most of the stringed instruments. so don`t be hatin on us violas!

How is it worst for your health?

Large violas can cause left arm problems, but the general trend has been towards size appropriate instruments, greatly decreasing instances of wrist trouble.

I don`t think that viola can cause wrist problems unless you don`t wear a shoulder rest and you aren`t supproting the viola correctly. I have a 16 inch viola and it is fine. I don`t have wrist problems.

Beisdes, thats just a way of riding the viola section of bad players!! Soon, we will take over the world!(joking)

i think there are way to many violins in the world! do you know how mad i get when someone says i play a viola? Some idiot told me violins,violas and guitars are the same! Can you belive it??
