Well at least you strings have a high chance of having another player, some woodwinds like oboes and bassoons are usually alone unless it`s like a state orchestra or something.

Even in my borough orchestra (so maybe 1/40 of the youth of London), there are four Grade 8 [not grade as in school grade, grade as in ABRSM grades, oh just look it up on the web ] flautists.

I`m another guy that plays the viola.I love the viola to death but can`t stand it that they`re always neglected in my class!!I`ve been playing it for three years now and the most I`ve heard my conductor say about the violas is that they`re off pitch or they need to practice.I practice a lot on the viola and love every minute of it ,but my conductor hates the instrument even when it sounds at it`s best!!!It makes me furious! He`s always saying the cellos, violins, and bass are excellent Why is the viola treated like this?I`m afraid I`ll never understand could someone please help me out on this.My E-mail is Rachelmolina @("at" sign)aol.com I`m hoping I can make a pal or two, thanks!A bunch! You all are the best.

GOOD LUCK!    17:17 on Sunday, May 15, 2005

because there are so little straight ppl in the world....

ppl who chose to play strings, usually go to the violin, which has a higher pitch.
males who like it are usually homosexual or bisexual

but the ppl who chose to play viola, know that it is more muscular, which suits them better

Hi , I`m 12. I don`t understand my friend. She claims that the viola sounds horrible and squeky. But I didnt believe her. I`m trying to reasearch the viola for a project. I just don`t understand. There`s hardly any good information on the VIola. no famous players either.

Well, Tertis is historically important, and Primrose was fairly famous in his time. And if all else fails, you can include Bach, Mozart and Paganini on your list ( they all played viola, though not exclusively ).

Maybe not all violists know about this forum? I am a violist and just discovered it today.
I went to Manhattan School of Music studied with Lillian Fuchs and now play with The Florida Orchestra down here in Hurricane Alley (Tampa, Florida)
