I know this is on the VIOLA section. I didn't know if I should put it on the Viola or Cello Forum.
I have a choice between cello and viola. I love the cello's sound, and the viola's mellow and sweet tone. I also want to get into a chamber orchestra. The Viola is cheaper and more portable. What instrument should I play?

For solo repertoire, then choose the cello. For orchestral and chamber music opportunities, choose the viola. If you are a child, I would suggest the Cello because you will be learning at the same pace as everyone else around you, if you later decide you made a mistake then changing to the viola will be easier than perhaps the other way round. If you are an adult (or at least a late starter) then maybe the viola would be better because the parts tend to be easier than the violin or Cellos, so you will be able to join in a bit quicker.
