 Hi everyone,
I`m an electronic musician and a hobbyist double-bass player (jazz only). But I`m now working on a written piece which involves a viola, and I wanted to make sure I`m not writing parts that go too high. The piece envolves two violas, and sometimes I need them to play pretty high. So my question is:
Can the viola play the E flat that`s ABOVE the staves in TREBLE clef?
If so, can it be played with good sound and vibrato?
Can the viola go even higher?

Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Adi

First of all, that was mean, 6o6 pianist. Second of all, you can play on the violas a string all the way up to a high a sharp- the equivalent to the high a sharp on a violin`s e string, I believe, but I`m not sure. However, if you want some high viola notes, get a five string viola! its a viola body with the C G D A and E strings! Hope this helps, and goodbye.

In case that question was directed to me:>"LOL, ya I figured. May I ask why you dislike violas? Just out of curiosity. "

 I really love violas!
That`s why I`m writing my score using two violas and no violins. I just wanted to know if some of the high notes I wrote could be reached in the viola.

 Thanks for the help.

The beauty of the viola is primarily in it`s lower registars...I`d like to see more written for it there...rather than in the higher registars that the violin can do so much better...
...food for thought...

My last comment was directed at 606 pianist, sry for the mix up. All I was wondering was what you had against violas; I didn`t realize you were just kidding, so my bad. anyways, go to http://www.musicaviva.com/viola/music.tpl?filnavn=blackthorn-stick-cnchrd and listen to the midi. it should give you a general idea of what the viola sounds like. Sorry about the mix up, and goodbye.
