Have you tried buying an A440 tuning fork from your nearest high street music shop? Tune the A to that, then tune down in 5ths - rough tune to "twinkle twinkle", then bow both strings until it sounds in tune/ or until the regular throbbing in volume ("the beats") gets slower and slower until it disappears.

I have an electronic guitar tuner...I just use that...
