Hi,I'm 13 and have been playing violin for almost6 years. I have recently decided to start to learn to paly cello, but my parents are wondering how much different the learning curve is. As in, will I be able to pick up on it easily, or will i need a teacher. Anyway if anyone knows please get back to me,

You'll need a teacher. It's not like going from violin to viola.

Hey, my daughter is also 13 but she has played the VIOLA for seven years and I've watched just about every lesson. I've just started playing the cello and while I understand a lot about music and basic string technique because of listening to her lessons and coaching her, there are a number of things that are different about playing a cello--like the bow hold, for example. Some of this you might be able to figure out by watching YouTube but I'd take SOME lessons if you can afford them to make sure you don't pick up bad habits. However, weekly lessons might NOT be necessary because presumably you already understand a lot of music theory and know how to practice effectively. Good luck!
