My cello is old and fragile and it brakes easily. When i first got my cello i basically restored it myself , it was so broken it looked as if someone had used it as a tobbagon. it needed a new bridge though, the one it had was to small and was placed in the wronge place and the sound post was also in the wrong place, so i took it to a lutheir who is now my personal lutheir. He`s pretty cool, he`s a fith generation lutgier and gives me a deal because i`m only a student and not making any money for my cello.well anyway. after that i had left my cello up in my room and it got really hot and the humidity got to it and the orginal gut string holding the tailpeice on broke, so like the strings collapsed and the bridge and sound post then collapsed also so i had to take it to my lutheir again. and recently one of my fellow cello pupil rammed a chair into my already delicated side makeing a crack on the rib from a this huge patch that it got when i first got it to mid curvy part in the middle, so i took it my lutheir again and he fixed it. IT would have originally costed like 2000 dollars but since my cello isn`t that great it was only like 200.
After that i found out that i needed a new figure board because mine is warping inwards, but i`m now planning to get a new cello so i don`t i will bother unless it like snaps and i still need it.

OH, MY GOD!you guys are killing me!DON`T repair anything yourself! I don`t care how "poor" you are. Trust me, I`m a professional cellist (now, that`s poor). If you repair it yourself, aside from stringing it, your instrument WILL drastically drop in value. Special materials are consistently used by luthiers. They WON`T tell you how to fix it yourself simply because they don`t want to encourage you to make a bad situation worse by repairs being done by an amateur or less. Luthiers are highly specialized and educated. I mean, really....ELMERS GLUE?!?!?! you guys are breaking my heart. If your celli are falling to pieces because you keep it untouched in an attic or are dropping it down the stairs, then you just plain DON`T DESERVE THE DAMN THING!

You are soooooooooooooooooooooo Wrong!!!

They Want to make the MONEY!!!!!! All I asked was what type of varnish do you use and he didn`t want to tell me, I didn`t have the money so I just did it myself and guessed at what type of varnish to use and it turned out fine. The first time I used the wrong varnish that was a paint varnish mix the second time was the charm.

The only thing I wouldn`t do is take the face and back off of the cello.
