I just started and I`m 56 - I had to wait till I retired from one of my jobs!

16, I remember 16, I`m not doing any of the things now, that I did when I was 16, (except for the `girl` thing - I got a great wife).

Advise please: At 31, I am debating between the piano and the cello. I play no other instruments. which do you think I would be most successful at learning? I know there are lot of factors to making a recommendation but in general, which should I go for?

THanks,
David

I don`t think it really matters, learning one instrument shouldn`t take any longer than the other. When it comes to playing the cello, you have to make sure that you don`t buy a cheap bad sounding cello. When it comes to playing a piano, stringed or electric, which do you prefer? I already know how to play the Cello, but I would like to know how to play the piano, it`s all up to you.

well seeing as im a pianist i would recommend you learning the piano cuz its more versatile than the cello. And for the guy who posted just b4 me, the 2 instruments are totally different judging by the way ppl play cello.. very different.

Sure they`re different, it still shouldn`t take any longer to learn the piano than the cello. Piano more versatile than the Cello, I guess that depents on how good you are on the two instruments after a certain amount of time? Not to mention on how good your music teacher is.

Wow. I am looking forward to learning to play the cello and I`m 43. I have been dreaming of this for a long time, and can`t wait to start. I live near Stetson University, and have been in contact with a student there who is going to teach me. It is never too late to start playing an instrument.

By inference, Is 45 to late to learn classical guitar? I have started playing/learning 2.5 months ago. I would have to contribute a resounding no.

im 17, and i have played the violin, flute, and clarinet. i dropped out of clarinet b/ce i hated it, and flute teacher tried to hit me.(when i was 12.) so as you can imagine, i quit. i hold a concert master position on my church orchestra, and i am psyched to start up the cello in a week. 16 is NOT two old. i started violin when i was 15, and now im the friggin` concert master at my church! go for it.

16 is no way too late but stick at it. i played from 12-15 and got really good. i then gave up and now, at 19, am having to go through it all again which is annoying, but worth it!!!!
