Playing the cello

Hi!! I just wanna ask, can a person play the cello while standing up?? I mean, yes you can do that to electric cellos but aren`t there any conventions or styles that allow you to play the acoustic cello while standing up??

haha this isn`t like, a method or anything, but once i was just messing around and i put my end pin out really far and played my cello like a bass...
i`ve also tried playing my cello like a guitar!

wow!!! so that means it`s possible? is it harder or anything? is it harder to control?

hmm, i guess it`s a little harder because it kind of throws off your balence and such, and it`s not something that you`re used to

The way I was taugh was to stand up straight, put your left heel out in front with your toes kinda up, and put the endpin on the top of your foot, or something like that. I do it all the time since i`m for some reason always walking around with my friend whose a violinist. I`ve somehow managed to be able to do that and walk while I play =P Its actually kinda fun, imo

Im actually a violinist and I want to learn the cello but I don`t want a hindrance to my playing especially for a cello where movement is quite limited. I want to have freedom and such while playing and just so i wanted to learn the cello..

what is wrong with you people? how long have you been playing cello for? obviousely not that long. of course you can play standing up.. the real question is can you play at all?

Actually, in Finlad we have this band, Apocalyptica, that is a cello qartet, and one part of their stage coreography is to stand up and mosh while playing cello, so I guess it is possible to play and stand at the same time.

But are they using acoustic instruments?? Or are they using electric cellos because it is possible to play electric cellos wl=hile standing up....
