Whenever I go to an open mic and they ask me to start the jam sessions with something, only funky or jazzy lines come out of me as a bass player. When you look up videos on YouTube for backing tracks to play along to they are almost always Jazz or Funk backing tracks. I can kind of understand improvising with rock? Kinda? I would like someone to explain if possible. Another big question this raises for me is, compared to genres where improvisation is encouraged heavily like jazz and funk, how does one start coming up with improvised bass lines for other genres?

Thanks in advance!
