Trying to play my first chord G major and no matter what way I try at least one string gets blocked by another finger. Should I be able to do this first time or can it come after a while?

it will come after a while but try to hold all your fingers down angled so no strings are blocked and play 1 string at a time makeing sure no srings are blocked and hold your hand there for a bit. you'll get used to it after a while and will not have so much trouble anymore.

it is like playing sports every player has a ceiling based on
how gifted they are by nature in the required skills only you can prove what or how long it takes for you to master fingering
there are a lot of intertainers that can't acheive accurate
fingering of chords and keep the beat without messing up that is why there are so many guitar players in one band and it takes so many takes in the studio

G major (open position across all six strings, I'm assuming) is not the easiest chord with which to start. I recommend starting with E minor and then going to A minor and E major.
