I`ve had a read through all the post and just have 2 things I could do with a simple answer to.

a. Is it possible at all to tune Drop C with a cheap tuner or will I have to tune this by ear like all the posts instruct.

b. Does drop D do as a subsitute to Drop C for learning a song? From what I can tell, the song should sound ok, just a little higher than normal.

@b yeah it should sound the same, as drop d and drop c are mostly the same, only that in drop c ALL strings are 1 step more down, that makes it sound the same, but higher...

Drop D: Tune your low E to a D note by matching the 7th fret on E to your A string. You can also just use a standard tuner and tune it til it rings as a D.

Drop C: First off, grab that tuner again and tune your A string and make it a G note. Then match the 5th fret on A to the D string. Tune the G string to the 5th fret on D and so on. Once youve accomplished that, match the low E string to the D string (which is now a C note).
When you are done you will have CGCFAD

C#: First tune your guitar a half step down to Eb. Put a capo on the first fret and tune to standard E tuning to do this. Once you have done this, match the 7th fret on the E string to the A string.

to answer the question about drop A:
i think that band Trapt uses drop A tuning and i know they use a 7 string guitar. The top notes is an A note, and then the rest of the guitar is tuned standard... so it is
A E A D G B e.

I dont know if that helps much considering you d need a new guitar but oh well.

ok ive seen several different people saying things like "what would u want to go into drop d/drop c/flat tuning neway? well the simple answer is when ur a guittarist in a band youve got to be able 2 match the singers voice...some singers cant hit a high note and some cant hit a low note...i just happen 2 be a singer and guittarist and i cant hit a low note so i tune my guitar down a step or 2 to be able 2 hit the same note and it sounds better than in standard tuning b/c i dont have to go as low

I play in drop b aka slip knot, bloodsimple( actually they play in drop a) but i stay in drop b. You can buy a chromatic tuner for 40 bucks to do all the tuning you need. Hopefully this helps someone, go longhorns beat Scu.
