I am selling a clarinet I have and using the money to buy a guitar. I know almost nothing about guitars, though. What would you suggest for a beginner that is relatively inexpensive (I`m not really sure how much I`ll be able to get for the clarinet), but also good quality?

You get what you pay for. Please, in the name of decency and self respect, don`t be cheap. You owe it to yourself to have enough quality, to make the guitar playable, or you could have a miserable experience. Therefore look to Yamaha acoustic and/or a reputable dealer with after-sale commitment & service. Strat Man Dwight - guitar strategies from beginner to expert

I have a Talman and i love it also, if you can spend enough money get a Gibson(always the best) but i would suggest a Yamaha or a Talman becuz they aren`t incredibly expensive yet they sound fairly nice.

Yes, the Talman line by Ibanez, and other Ibanez guitars are excellent, just priced a little more, but worth what you pay. Strat man Dwight

ESP LTD F-100, check it out on musicians friend, under $300, great looks, and plays very nice. Also, consider the Epiphone company. The "Les Paul" (Epiphone) is kind of a "standard" guitar that is well respected and widely played. Check out that ESP though. -Dice
